Getting started with teacher certification

Four steps. Less stress. More pathways cleared.

Step One

Take the Intro Course

After you apply, you’ll have access to an introductory course that explains the certification process as well as a landscape overview of what teaching looks like in your state. You’ll also have access to classroom style video courses for more in-depth context of real classroom settings. While you’re completing this step, we’ll ask you to submit your final college transcripts (proving at least a 2.5 GPA) to move on to the next step. If you are pursuing this before graduation via a Contingency Enrollment, follow the detailed instructions in the Requirements Page for guidance on transcripts.

Step Two

Teacher Certification Testing

You’ll need to take and pass two types of tests:

Content Test:

This is a subject specific test based on specific grade levels. This test needs to be completed before you are eligible to be hired.

Pedagogy and Professional Responsibilities (PPR) Test:

This test is all about the theory and practice of education. This test will be taken once all your coursework is completed.

Step Three

Training

In parallel with studying for and passing your content test, you can begin your official coursework and training that equips you for the classroom. All coursework and training is online and self-paced. This flexible approach allows you to demonstrate mastery of the subject matter, then move onto the next course.

Step Four

Teaching

Once you’ve passed your content (subject area) exam, completed the three pre-requisite courses, and logged 30 hours of classroom observation, you’ll then have the opportunity to be hired as the Teacher of Record under an Intern Certificate.
